Garage door opener
You can expect your garage door opener to last for 10-15 years, depending on how often you use it. That doesn't mean that you can just neglect it, however. These numbers are predicated on you taking care of your garage door opener. This is a lot easier than it sounds, however, as it just requires you to pay attention when opening and closing your garage door. Any abnormal behaviour during operation should be investigated and addressed as soon as possible.
Whether a part has worn down or something else is putting extra stress on your garage door opener, the sooner any issues are addressed by a professional, the longer your garage door opener will last.

Door and panels
Unlike some of the more intricate mechanical parts, knowing when to replace the door itself is very straightforward. Any damage to the door that would make it unusable will be fairly obvious, and you will likely replace it for other reasons long before that could be an issue. Generally, such damage would be caused by an unexpected external factor, such as something hitting the door, rather than wear and tear.
With such a large variety of materials, styles and environmental conditions, it's hard to give a clear indication of exactly how long you can expect your garage door to last. Despite this, it's fair to say that it should last at least a few decades. The most common reasons to replace your garage door would be to upgrade to newer technology or because it looks old. Barring unexpected damage, when to replace your garage door is largely personal preference.
Springs
The general rule of thumb for garage door springs is that they should be replaced at least once every 10,000 cycles. This means that if you open and close your garage door an average of 4 times a day, you would need garage door spring replacement within 7 years. This is, however, only a general indication; the lifespan of a garage door spring will depend on the quality and size of the spring in addition to countless external factors. Because of this, it's important to perform a visual check regularly. For safety reasons, this should be done without touching the spring.
